Michael Ovens

Cycle for Sight ambassador, Michael Ovens has not let his progressive vision loss, due to retinitis Pigmentosa, slow him down. In fact, Michael is doing more and moving faster than ever before.

Since attending his first Vision Quest in 2005, Michael Ovens has become one of the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ biggest advocates and most passionate fundraisers. Not only is he the co-founder of Cycle for Sight, he has hosted film screening fundraisers featuring the movie Going Blind, organized dining in the dark fundraisers at O.Noir restaurant, and shared his personal experience of living with vision loss at several Optician and Optometry eye care conferences. As an avid runner, he has completed ten marathons in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

He isn’t afraid to share his personal struggles if it means raising awareness about the need for vision research. Michael says, “It’s a paradox that while my vision has continued to deteriorate over the years, I feel more confident than ever that we are on the cusp of breakthroughs that are going to change the outlook for people like me and I feel more resolved than ever to keep fighting for that day.”
